Fiona Cornforth

Director

Fiona (of the Wuthathi and Maluligal peoples) is a nationally recognised governance and community leader in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander public policy, and system and sector design for rights, respect and healing. As the inaugural Director at Yardhura Walani, the National Centre benefits from her expertise and experience shaping policy and reform on boards of national organisations, minister-appointed expert and advisory groups, and establishing key engagement processes and through them, major advances in action on Child Sexual Abuse, Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence, Aged Care principles and standards, Children’s rights, and redress and reparations schemes for victim-survivors. Fiona translates community-led research into practice across a number of workforces, sectors and systems to ensure the National Centre fulfills the expectations of communities, and that as many individuals of a system as possible understand and take up a healing role. With qualifications in management, and many years leading the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Healing Foundation as CEO, Fiona drives healing‑informed approaches to sector development, and systems change that centres the power and strengths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures, to lead change.
